Determining Artistic Perspective and Depth
Perspective and Depth in Artwork
To achieve a realistic look, it is essential to consider the perspective and depth of your artwork. By paying attention to the size and placement of objects in the foreground and background, you can create an illusion of three-dimensionality.
Determining Perspective
Perspective refers to the way in which objects appear to recede into the distance. There are two main types of perspective: linear perspective and atmospheric perspective.
* Linear perspective creates the illusion of depth by using lines that converge at a single point on the horizon. * Atmospheric perspective creates the illusion of depth by using colors and values that become lighter and less distinct as they move away from the viewer.Creating Depth
In addition to perspective, there are a number of other techniques that can be used to create depth in artwork.
* Overlapping objects can help to create a sense of depth by obscuring part of one object with another. * Shading can be used to create the illusion of form and depth by making some areas of an object appear lighter or darker than others. * Color can also be used to create depth by using cooler colors for objects that are farther away and warmer colors for objects that are closer.
